Loginov, Evgenii Fedorovich 

Born Oct. 10 (23), 1907, in Helsingfors, now Helsinki; died Oct. 7, 1970, in Moscow. Soviet military commander; marshal of aviation (1967). Member of the CPSU from 1939.

Loginov joined the Soviet Army in 1926. He graduated from the Theoretical Military School of the Air Force in 1926, from a military pilots’ school in 1928, and from the K. E. Voroshilov Higher Military Academy in 1949. From 1926 to 1942 he served as a pilot; commander of a flight, detachment, and squadron; and deputy commander of an air brigade. In the Great Patriotic War (1941–45), Loginov commanded an aviation division and a longrange aviation corps. After the Great Patriotic War, Loginov was head of a department and deputy chief of the Air Force Academy (1950–54) and held executive posts in the armed forces; he served as deputy commander in chief of the air force and inspector general of the Chief Inspectorate of the Ministry of Defense (1954–59), chief of the Main Directorate of Civil Aviation (1959–64), and minister of civil aviation of the USSR (from 1964). He was a deputy to the seventh convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He became a candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1966 and a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1968. Loginov was awarded four Orders of Lenin, three Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of Kutuzov First Class, the Order of Suvorov Second Class, the Order of Alexander Nevsky, the Order of the Red Star, and various medals.
