Logroño

Logroño (lōgrō`nyō), city (1990 pop. 121,911), capital of La Rioja prov., N Spain, in La Rioja, on the Ebro River. It is a farm-processing center noted for its Rioja wine; wood and metal products and textiles are also made there. The kings of Navarre and Castile fought over Logroño from the 10th cent. until its annexation (1173) to Castile. The charter granted by Alfonso VI served as a model for those of other cities.

Logroño

City (2001: 133,058), capital of La Rioja autonomous community, Spain. Originating in Roman times, it owed its growth during the Middle Ages to its position on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela. An ancient walled town, it is a trade centre in an agricultural region and is known for its Rioja wine.

a city in Spain in Old Castile; the administrative center of Logroño Province. Population, 84,500 (1970). Logroño is the center of the Rioja grape-growing and wine-making region in the Ebro River valley. Its industries include woodworking, food processing, and the manufacture of furniture and textiles.
