Enfield, town (1990 pop. 45,532), Hartford co., N Conn., on the Connecticut River at the Mass. line; settled c.1680. The town has varied manufacturing, including filtration systems, machinery, and computers. Vegetables and tobacco are grown, and there is food and dairy processing. Enfield's long-time carpet industry was formerly the town's principal economic asset. Originally part of Massachusetts, Enfield was annexed to Connecticut in 1749.
