Long Reach Ethernet An earlier technology from Cisco that enabled Ethernet to be extended into office and apartment buildings that had older CAT 1, 2 or 3 twisted pair wires. Using Cisco equipment with Long Reach Ethernet (LRE) protocols, Ethernet could be transmitted up to 5,000 feet at speeds up to 15 Mbits/sec.
