Looming

(Creativity), a literary-artistic and sociopolitical magazine, the organ of the Union of Writers of the Estonian SSR. Founded in 1923 in Tartu, for the most part it advocated democratic principles in bourgeois Estonia. In Soviet Estonia the magazine has been published monthly in Tallinn since 1945. One of the founders of the magazine and its first editor was F. Tuglas. Most of the important works of Estonian Soviet literature are published in Looming. In 1973 the magazine had a circulation of 16,000-18,000. A supplement, the Looming Library, appears weekly.
