Loriia, Parmen Onisimovich
Born July 18(30), 1896, in Kvakude, now in Samtredia Raion. Soviet Georgian writer. Member of the CPSU from 1940. The son of peasants, Loriia was self-educated. He served in World War I and began to publish his works in 1920. Loriia’s work reflects the past and present of Adzhariia. The heroes of the novels Tea (parts 1-2, 1937-38) and Dawn Through a Crack (1939) are builders of socialist society. The novels Mevlud (1941) and Waves (1953) were written on historical revolutionary themes. Loriia published the novel In the Mines, about the workers of Chiatura, in 1954 and the novel Sons, about the builders of a factory, in 1956-60. Hopes of the Future (1965) deals with the life of Georgian young people. Loriia has also written for children (Children’s Stories, 1951).
