In east-central VA, east of Charlottesville; organized May 6, 1742 from Hanover County. Name Origin: For Louisa, queen of Denmark (1724-51), daughter of George II (1683-1760) of England.

On southeastern border of IA, north of Burlington; established Dec 7, 1836 (prior to statehood) from Des Moines County. Name Origin: For Louisa Massey, pioneer heroine who shot and wounded her brother's murderer. Some sources claim Louisa, queen of Denmark (1724-51), youngest daughter of George II of England.
