Lovett, Robert (1895–1986) secretary of defense; born in Huntsville, Texas. A Yale graduate and an investment banker, Lovett served in many governmental positions including under secretary of state (1947–49) before becoming secretary of defense (1951–53). He was a director of the Union Pacific Railroad for over fifty years.
