From a prominent Southern family, she met Robert Baden-Powell Baden-Powell of Gilwell, Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell, 1st Baron ..... Returning to the United States, she founded a Girl Guide troop in Savannah in 1912 and worked to spread the group, renamed Girl Scouts of America in 1913, throughout the country.
