Lowell Heritage State Park Location: In Lowell, via I-495 or Route 3 to Lowell Connector. Follow signs to park. Facilities: Picnic area, trails, bike paths, boat ramp, restrooms (é), historic sites, visitor center. Activities: Boating, canoeing, fishing, swimming, hiking, bicycling, interpretive programs. Special Features: Lowell features a network of 19th century canals that were created to provide power for the textile mills that lined the water's edge. The buildings also still remain there. The park offers canal rides, exhibits about Lowell's role in America's industrial history, a Victorian Garden, more than two miles of landscaped esplanade where summer concerts are held, and swimming and boating in the Merrimack River.
