Lower Wekiva River Preserve State Park Location: 9 miles west of Sanford on SR 46. Facilities: Primitive horse camping area with bathhouse/showers (é) and restroom (é); multiuse trails. Activities: Horse camping, canoeing (must launch from outside locations), bicycling, hiking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing. Special Features: Central Florida nature in its purest form is found in this preserve, which borders more than 6 miles of the Saint Johns River and 4 miles of the Wekiva River and Blackwater Creek. The area's system of blackwater streams and wetlands provides a habitat for black bear, river otter, alligator, wood stork, and sandhill crane.
