In south-central IA, southeast of Des Moines; established Jan 13, 1846 from Monroe County. Name Origin: For Col. Robert Lucas (1781-1853), governor of OH (1832-36) and first territorial governor of IA (1838-41).

On the northwest coast of OH, bordered on the north by Lake Erie, organized Jun 20, 1835 from Wood County. Name Origin: For Col. Robert Lucas (1781-1853), governor of OH (1832-36) and first territorial governor of IA (1838-41).
