Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus

Cincinnatus, Lucius Quinctius 

Roman patrician.

Cincinnatus was consul in 460 B.C. He served as dictator in 458 during the Romans’ war against the Aequii and the Sabines. In 439, when he was again dictator, he suppressed an uprising of the plebeians. According to the Roman legend recorded by such authors as Livy, Cincinnatus was a paragon of modesty, valor, and fidelity to civic duty.
