(organic chemistry)
C8H7N3O2A white, water-soluble, crystalline compound that melts at 320°C; used in an alkaline solution for analytical testing in chemistry. Also known as 3-aminophthalic hydrazide.

Membranes were rinsed with phosphate-buffered saline--Tween and incubated with horseradish peroxidase-conjugated secondary antibodies (anti-rabbit) for detection of oxidized luminol (Amersham Biosciences, Piscataway, NJ).
The probe was labeled with horseradish peroxidase, exposed in the presence of luminol to Hyperfilm-ECL as outlined by the manufacturer (Amersham).
Similarly, a man-made chemical, luminol, creates the cool light found in glow sticks when it reacts with oxygen.
