Luneberg lens [′lü·nə‚bərg ‚lenz] (electromagnetism) A type of antenna consisting of a dielectric sphere whose index of refraction varies with distance from the center of the sphere so that a beam of parallel rays falling on the lens is focused at a point on the lens surface diametrically opposite from the direction of incidence, and, conversely, energy emanating from a point on the surface is focused into a plane wave. Accurately spelled Luneburg lens. How to thank TFD for its existence? Tell a friend about us, add a link to this page, add the site to iGoogle, or visit webmaster's page for free fun content. |
