Lusis, Ianis Voldemarovich
(Jānis Voldemāras Lusis). Born May 19, 1939, in Jelgava, Latvian SSR. Soviet athlete (track and field). Honored Master of Sport (1965), officer in the Soviet Army. Lusis, a javelin thrower, was Olympic champion in 1968, European champion in 1962, 1966, 1969, and 1971, and Soviet champion from 1962 through 1966 and from 1968 through 1972.
