Luton

Luton (l`tən), city (1991 pop. 163,209), S central England on the Lea River. The largest city of Bedfordshire, it is administratively independent of the county. Hats, automobiles, ball bearings, and aircraft parts are among the products manufactured. The English millinery industry was established there during the time of James I.
