This study provides insight into the evolution of burrow construction and use in the Lycosidae.
The burrowing Lycosidae (wolf spider), in contrast, dominated on clay soils in high rainfall areas, but dropped off rapidly as rainfall decreased.
The majority of rowers were found in the Lycosoidea, from the families Ctenidae (1 of 3 species studied), Pisauridae (8 of 8 species), Trechaleidae (1 of 1 species), and Lycosidae (27 of 48 species).
