Médoc (mādôk`), region, SW France, a peninsula extending NW of Bordeaux between the Bay of Biscay and the Gironde River estuary. The region is covered with some of France's most famous vineyards; Château Lafite, Château Latour, and Château Margaux are the most renowned of the many wines produced in Médoc.

Médoc

a region in southwestern France between the left bank of the Gironde River (estuary of the Garonne River) and the Bay of Biscay; part of the Garonne lowland. Médoc is a low-lying plain, primarily cultivated in the east and occupied by dunes often planted with pine forests in the west. Near the coast is a system of lakes extending meridionally. It is an important French viticultural and wine-making region.
