Möngke-Temür
khan of the Golden Horde from 1266 to 1282. Grandson of Khan Batu. During the reign of Möngke-Temür, the Tatars and their allies, the Russian princes, conducted campaigns against Byzantium (c. 1269–71), Lithuania (1275), and the Caucasus (1277). The first yarlyk (decree of the khan) about exempting the Russian church from paying tribute to the Golden Horde that has survived to our day was written on his order. The Genoese colony of Caffa (Kaffa) was founded in the Crimea during Möngke-Temür’s reign. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
