The company is in the process of upgrading the connectivity from its Web site management facility to the Internet from multiple DS-3s to a highly redundant OC-12 SONET ring between its Beltsville, MD data center and the MAE East.
The DKC-ID1 can also archive images to Sony's MDH-10 portable MD data drive that can store up to 1,000 digital images on a data MiniDisc.
However, the Sharp and National Semiconductor research and development efforts have decreased the cost of MD Data drives while reducing their height to 17 mm P small enough to fit in a notebook computer - thus making MD Data storage very attractive for mobile computing and consumer products.
