MEID

(Mobile Equipment ID) A 56-bit number that uniquely identifies a CDMA cellphone. In the 2005 time frame, the MEID began to replace the 32-bit ESN (electronic serial number). The equivalent number in a GSM or UMTS cellphone is the international mobile equipment identity (see IMEI).

Be sure to keep records of the ESN, IMEI, or MEID numbers on all mobile devices.
The successful deployment of Pre-release D MEID technology is arguably the single most urgent issue facing the CDMA2000 community today.
When buying a phone or other device, ask the seller for the ESN (electronic serial number), MEID (mobile equipment identifier), or IMEI (international mobile equipment identifier) number and the mobile provider (these numbers are typically found beneath the battery, other times like with the iPhone, go to settings >> general >> about >> then scroll to IMEI for the number).
