MMS
(Multimedia Messaging Service) An enhancement to the SMS text messaging service that enables images, audio and video files to be transmitted with the text message to a cellphone. MMS uses the SMS protocol to send notifications to the recipient's phone; however, both SMS and the WAP protocol are used to transfer the data from the sender to the MMS service center (MMSC) and from there to the recipient. MMS was developed as part of the 3GPP project. See SMS, WAP, 3GPP, punchcasting and photo messaging.
