MMT

1. The 6.5-meter single-mirror telescope that was converted from the Multiple Mirror Telescope on Mount Hopkins, Arizona. Its lightweight honeycomb primary mirror of borosilicate glass was cast in 1992. This replaced the six smaller mirrors of the original telescope. In 2001, the MMT was used in the first-ever discovery of a massive black hole in the galactic halo, thousands of parsecs above the plane of the Milky Way.
