Maachah, ancient city-state of Syria

Maachah or Maacah (both: mā`əkə), ancient city-state of Syria, S of Mt. Hermon. It was held by Arameans in biblical times. The inhabitants are Maachathi or Maachathites. It is mentioned several times in the Bible. The town of Abel-beth-maachah Abel-beth-maachah (ā`bəl-bĕth-mā`əkə), town, ancient Palestine, the modern Tel Abil (Israel), S of Metulla.
