Steve Jobs, interim CEO and original co-founder of Apple, made tough pruning decisions and planted new seeds of change that include: dumping the Newton personal digital assistants; ending Mac clone licensing agreements that ate away Apple's profits; and restricting sales of Apple products to CompUSA and 3,500 authorized U. The Be licensing deal, meanwhile, gives a short-term boost to Power Computing, a 2-1/2-year old start-up company that has grown rapidly by building Mac clones that perform better in many instances than Apple Macs. The 2MB cards for PCI Mac's and Mac clones are in stock now and 2MB upgrades for zif Macintosh(R) will be shipping in early August. |
