MacIntyre, Alasdair (Chalmers) (1929– ) philosopher; born in Glasgow, Scotland. After several positions at British universities, he came to the United States in 1969, teaching at Brandeis (1969–72), Wellesley (1972–82), Vanderbilt (1982–88), and Notre Dame (from 1988). His works include Marxism and Christianity (1954), After Virtue (1981), and other influential writings on ethics and philosophy of mind.
