machine dependentRefers to applications that run in only one series of computers such as the Intel x86 or IBM iSeries (AS/400). Also called "hardware dependent." In contrast, "machine independent" means that the application can run in a variety of different families of computers. Machine dependent is sometimes used synonymously with "platform dependent."
