What is absolutely astonishing is that when you move through the list of tribes and come to the eighth tribe, the tribe of Manasseh, you read along: The descendants of Manasseh: of Machir, the clan of the Machirites; and Machir was the father of Gilead; of Gilead, the clan of the Gileadites.
I'm close to the gorgeous white sandy beaches of Machir Bay and Saligo and the hills around Loch Gruinart are gorgeous.
Saligo and Machir Bay in the northwest of the island are superb, as is The Big Strand on Laggan Bay, where you'll find more than two miles of white sand and dunes as well as the challenging 18-hole Machrie Golf Course.
