In central IL, east of Springfield, organized Jan 19, 1829 from Shelby County. Name Origin: For Nathaniel Macon (1757-1837), NC legislator, U.S. representative (1791-1815), U.S. senator (1815-28), and president of the NC constitutional convention (1835).
