Until the 1930s, most economic analysis focused on specific firms and industries. The aftermath of the Great Depression and the development of national income and production statistics brought new interest to the field of macroeconomics. The goals of macroeconomic policy include economic growth, price stability, and full employment. | It wasn't hard this semester to get my freshmen students in Principles of Macro-economics interested in supply and demand. Sound as that goal can be in terms of macro-economics and the long-term health of the economy, the effect of any increase in the cost of money falls more heavily upon small businesses than it does on corporations with deep pockets. Mainstream micro- and macro-economics, human capital and cultural theory, and various streams of Marxist thought all are found wanting. |
