Macromedia

(Macromedia, Inc., San Francisco, CA, www.macromedia.com) A software company specializing in multimedia authoring tools that was acquired by Adobe Systems, Inc. in mid-2005. It was founded in 1992 by the merger of Authorware, Inc., which was founded in 1984, and MacroMind-Paracomp. Macromind was founded in 1984 and merged with Paracomp in 1991. Macromedia's primary products are Dreamweaver, ColdFusion, Flex and Macromedia Director for Mac and Windows.

Macromedia is also known for its Flash Player and Shockwave Player, which are installed on hundreds of millions of PCs worldwide. Flash Lite, announced in 2003, is a version of Flash designed for delivering content to cellphones and became an integral part of NTT DoCoMo's i-Mode package for millions of cell users across Japan and Europe.
