Vipera Lebetina

a snake of the genus Vipera. Its body length is up to 1½m . The color is gray with dark spots along the spine. It is found in North Africa and Southwest Asia; in the USSR it is found in the Transcaucasus (except Abkhazia) and in the southern parts of the Middle Asian republics. This viper prefers stony places, overgrown with shrubbery, in mountains, foothills, and adjacent plains. It feeds on small animals, birds, and lizards. Its bite may be fatal to man and animals.
