Madden, Martin

Madden, Martin (Barnaby) (1855–1928) U.S. representative; born in Darlington, England. Emigrating at age 5, he was a self-made quarryman who opposed machine politics in Chicago. In congress (Rep., Ill.; 1905–28) he created the bureau of the budget.
