Madeleva, Sister Mary

Madeleva, Sister Mary (b. Mary Evaline Wolff) (1887–1964) poet, educator; born in Cumberland, Wis. Joining the Sisters of the Holy Cross (1908), she earned a doctorate in English from the University of Southern California at Los Angeles (1925) and was president of St. Mary's College (Notre Dame, Ind.) (1934–61). A medieval scholar, she won distinction for her literary essays and poetry.
