The American Red Cross, with headquarters based in a city which had just declared a state of emergency, took out a full-page ad in the June 27 Washington Post (at a cost of $107, 000) to celebrate the acceptance of Israeli Magen David Adom's membership in the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
