A read/write head discharges electrical impulses onto the moving ferromagnetic surface. Reading is accomplished by sensing the polarity of the bit with the read/write head. magnetic storage [mag′ned·ik ′stȯr·ij] (computer science) A device utilizing magnetic properties of materials to store data; may be roughly divided into two categories, moving (drum, disk, tape) and static (core, thin film).
