(Fe2O3) An oxidation of iron used in the coating of magnetic disks and tapes. See ferrous.
ferric oxide [′fer·ik ′äk‚sīd]
(inorganic chemistry)
Fe2O3Red, hexagonal crystals or powder, insoluble in water and soluble in acids, melting at 1565°C; used as a catalyst and pigment for metal polishing, in metallurgy, and in medicine. Also known as ferric oxide red; jeweler's rouge; red ocher.
