Maha Bandula
Born about 1780; died Apr. 1, 1825, in Danubyu. Burmese general. A talented military commander, Maha Bandula led campaigns into Assam in the early 1820’s, leading to the annexation of this principality by Burma. In the first Anglo-Burman war he entered Bengal in May 1824 and won several victories over the British forces. In December 1824, Maha Bandula opened a broad offensive against the British positions in the area of Rangoon but was defeated and retreated to Danubyu. He defended Danubyu successfully beginning on March 5 but was killed during an artillery bombardment. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
