Mahjub, Abd Al-Halik

    0.01 sec.
Mahjub, Abd Al-Halik

(Abdal Halik [Khalek, Khalig, Khaliq] Mahgoub). Born Sept. 23, 1927, in Omdurman; died July 28, 1971, in Khartoum. Figure in the Sudanese labor movement.

Mahjub entered the University of Cairo in 1946 and joined the Communist and national liberation movement in Egypt. Returning to the Sudan, he worked with the Sudanese Communist Party (SCP), becoming general secretary of the SCP in 1949. In 1958 he became general secretary of the Anti-imperialist Front, a progressive party founded in 1953. From April 1968 to May 1969 he was a deputy to the national assembly of the Sudan (representing the democratic Sudanese Socialist Union). He was frequently persecuted by the reactionary authorities. In 1971 the Sudanese authorities accused Mahjub of involvement in an attempt by a group of Sudanese army officers to overthrow the government of General J. al-Nimary. He was executed by order of a military tribunal.

Mahjub wrote a number of works on the labor and national liberation movement in the countries of Africa.
