Maiorov, Mikhail Moiseevich 

Born Jan. 22, 1890; died Jan. 20, 1938. Soviet state and party figure. Member of the Communist Party from 1906. Born in the village of Skorodnoe, Minsk Province, now Gomel’ Oblast; son of a handicraftsman.

Maiorov engaged in party work in the Ukraine, Saratov, and Moscow and was subjected a number of times to repression. He was a leader of the organization of the RSDLP (Bolshevik) in Kiev and of the Bolshevik group of the city soviet in 1917. Maiorov was a delegate to the Seventh (April) All-Russian Conference of the RSDLP(B) and was elected a member of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee at the Second All-Russian Congress of Soviets. He fought in the October battles in Moscow. In 1918 he was chairman of the All-Ukrainian Revolutionary Committee, a member of the Central Committee of the Ukrainian CP (Bolshevik), and secretary of the Kiev Oblast Committee of the Party. He served in the Red Army in 1919-20. In 1920-22 he was chairman of the Kiev Provincial Economic Council. In 1922-23, Maiorov was secretary of the Odessa Provincial Committee, and in 1932-33 secretary of the Odessa Oblast Committee of the Ukrainian CP(B). He was chairman of the Astrakhan and then of the Tomsk Provincial Executive Committees from 1924 to 1927. Maiorov was vice-chairman of the Central Control Commission of the Ukrainian CP(B) from 1927 to 1930 and people’s commissar of supply of the Ukrainian SSR from 1930 to 1932. He was secretary of the Middle Asian Bureau of the Central Committee of the ACP (Bolshevik) from 1933 to 1934. He became vice-chairman of the Central Union of Consumers’ Societies of the USSR in 1934.

Maiorov was a delegate to the Twelfth and Fourteenth through Seventeenth Party Congresses and was elected a member of the Central Control Commission of the ACP(B) at the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Congresses.
