r ), city (1990 pop. 96,333), Kyoto prefecture, SW Honshu, Japan, on Maizuru Bay. It is an important port and naval base with the best natural harbor on the Japan Sea coast. The city has spinning mills and chemical, rolling stock, and glass industries.Maizuru a city in Japan, on Honshu Island, in Kyoto prefecture on Wakasa Bay. Population, 95,200 (1970). Maizuru is an international trade port, primarily serving Soviet-Japanese trade. It is also a railroad junction. Textiles, sheet glass, and machinery are produced.
