an urban-type settlement in Makat Raion, Gur’ev Oblast, Kazakh SSR, located 132 km northeast of Gur’ev. Junction for railroad lines to Gur’ev, Oktiabr’sk, and Beineu; population, 9,500 (1973). Makat is one of the petroleum-extracting centers of the Emba oil region.
