A less common term often used interchangeably with chethu was ash-push--a term that many said came from English, or the sound of English as it was heard by Malayalam speakers.
The language of Kerala is Malayalam, and Kerala's people are sometimes referred to as Malayalis.
It retains its special liturgy in the local tongue, Malayalam.
