Malbone, Edward Greene (mălbōn`), 1777–1807, American portrait painter and miniaturist, b. Newport, R.I. After painting portraits in Providence and Boston, he accompanied Washington Allston to Charleston, S.C., and then to Europe. He was urged by Benjamin West to settle in London, but he returned to America, where he met with great success. His miniatures are noted for their grace and delicacy of tone.
