Malden (môl`dən), city (1990 pop. 53,884), Middlesex co., E Mass., a suburb of Boston, in the Mystic valley; settled 1640, inc. 1882. Among its varied manufactures are electronic parts, metal cans, paint, clothing, and rubber footwear. A number of old historic churches are there. Michael Wigglesworth Wigglesworth, Michael, 1631–1705, American clergyman and poet, b. England, grad. Harvard, 1651. His family emigrated to New England in 1638. A devoted minister at Malden, Mass., he also practiced medicine and wrote didactic poetry.
