Maliev, Georgii Gadoevich 

Born Nov. 5, 1886; died 1937. Soviet Ossetian writer.

Maliev was born in the village of Maska, in northern Ossetia. In 1917 he became a member of the Ossetian revolutionary democratic party Kermen. He took part in the struggle to establish Soviet power in Ossetia. Maliev worked for many years as a village teacher.

Maliev, a lyric poet, wrote in both Russian and Ossetian. His first poem was published in 1909. The collections Mountain Motifs (1924) and Iraf (1935) contain his verses, poems, and short stories.
