Malinovskii, Mikhail Sergeevich 

Born Sept. 22 (Oct. 4), 1880, in the village of Nekliudovo, now in Inza Raion, Ulianovsk Oblast. Soviet obstetrician-gynecologist. Academician (1944) and vice-president (1945-47) of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR. Honored Scientific Worker of the RSFSR (1934). Hero of Socialist Labor (1971).

Malinovskii graduated from the faculty of medicine of the University of Kazan in 1907. From 1919 to 1923 he was a professor at the University of Irkutsk, from 1923 to 1948 head of the subdepartment of obstetrics and gynecology at the First Moscow Medical Institute, and simultaneously, from 1945 to 1947, director of the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR. From 1947 to 1959 he served as professor in a subdepartment of the Central Institute for the Advanced Training of Physicians.

Malinovskii’s principal works deal with problems of puerperal infection, easing labor pain, cancer of the female genital system, and operative obstetrics. He developed a method of using placental blood for transfusions and founded a school of obstetriciangynecologists. An honorary member of the all-Union and all-Russian societies of obstetricians and gynecologists and of the J. Purkyně Czechoslovak Medical Society, Malinovskii has been awarded two Orders of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and medals.
