Malitsa
a long pullover garment for men common among the Nenets and sometimes encountered among the Komi, Ostyak (Khanty), and Mansi (Voguls) reindeer-breeders. It is made from reindeer hides. The fur is on the inside of the garment and is exposed only on the hem. The malitsa sometimes has a hood made of thinner skins with the fur exposed. Mittens are sewn to the sleeves. The garment (except the hem and hood) is usually covered with fabric and decorated with variously colored materials. The back of the hood is sometimes made of cloth and decorated with beads. Formerly worn directly over the body, the malitsa is now worn over underclothes and other cloth garments. A sovik (sokui), a garment of the same cut but having the fur on the outside, is worn over the malitsa during the winter. Want to thank TFD for its existence?
