Malmberg, Aino (ī`nō mälm`bĕr'yə), 1866–1933, Finnish patriot and feminist, grad. Univ. of Helsinki, 1887, in the first class to include women students. She was active in the nationalist movement that sought independence from Russia, and in the nationwide strike of 1905, which resulted in universal suffrage. Exiled by Russia in 1910, she went to England. Her home in London was long a center for exiles from Finland and other oppressed nations. She was a pacifist during World War I. She returned to Finland after it became independent in 1917, and her later years were devoted to bettering the position of the peasantry.
